Intercooler Fan

Today I received my cooling fan for my inter cooler and installed it. I wanted to find out what the temperatures were now that I had moved my K&N into the wheel well and see what the difference would be w/ & w/o the fan running in the engine bay. The results were interesting.

I bought a remote temp gauge at the store and ran the wire w/ the sensor into the wheel well and attached it right next to the K&N. In the wheel well the temp was 83 degrees. I then mounted it in the engine bay behind the inter cooler where the K&N used to sit it was 95 degrees w/ or w/o the fan running. The part that surprised me was this. During the test I picked a very quiet road in the country that has very little traffic. I wanted to be able to run the car w/o traffic or having to stop for lights. I was able to drive w/ the cruise set at 55 mph for 10 miles in either direction w/o any interference. When I was on my last run I ended up behind a very slow driver doing 45 mph. I rode behind them for about 1 tenth of a mile before I hit 4th gear and 20 psi to pass them. Well, when I looked back at the temp gauge it read 105 degrees. That was a 10 degree jump in the blink of an eye that it took to pass the slower driver. At this time I did not have the fan on so I wanted to see how long it would take to go back to the 95 degrees it had been holding at. It took 4 miles before It was back at 95. I decided to see how it would do w/ the fan on so I pulled off and plugged it back in. Well luck would have it that I was able to pull back out behind the same guy again. This time when I did the same thing to pass him the temp only went to 101 degrees. The good news is that in 1.25 miles it was back to 95 degrees.

This to me is proof enough that a cooling fan on the inter cooler is a good idea.
